Description:

The National Nuclear Safety Administration(NNSA) that oversees the Nevada Test Site(NTS) is considering expanding activities at the NTS even though President Obama has publicly stated a renewed commitment to global nuclear disarmament.
Public comment, on the scope of a new Site-Wide Environmental Impact Statement(SWEIS) to guide the NTS for the next 10 years, is being accepted through this Friday, October 16. By sending in this message, we hope you will add your voice to ours, calling for a broad inclusion of issues related to the NTS and its role in the nuclear weapons complex.
The scope needs to be broadly defined now, so more specific concerns can be introduced as the SWEIS is drafted and finalized. If the scope is too narrowly defined, the context will be lost: Nuclear weapons are bad. They need to be destroyed, not stockpiled, "stewarded" or replaced. Nothing is more devastating, in a shorter time, for a longer time, than a nuclear bomb. This context will not influence the drafters of the SWEIS unless we tell them it has to!
Thank you for taking the time to send this message along.

Instructions

I hope you like and agree with all of the points we've prepared, but feel free to personalize and edit the message. This isn't going to representatives, so brevity isn't as much of an issue as for some e-letters. The more broad the scope of the EIS, the more issues and evidence can be introduced as it is drafted and finalized. More extensive points plus other ways of submitting comments are on the NDE website. If you prefer to call comments into the NNSA, there is a toll-free number: 877-781-6105.
